My Tax Day Comments

Here's what I'm going to share at the Virginia Beach Tax Day Tea Party:



Tea Party, 4/15/09

On behalf of One million team members nationwide, one of the largest grassroots conservative networks in the nation….

…And 438,000 citizens who have joined our “Patriotic Resistance” to the Obama-led march toward statism and socialism….

I have a simple message….


“We Resist!”


When President Obama says that “only government” can solve our current crisis, we say… “We Resist”

And when the federal government expands to consume nearly 30% of our gross domestic product this year -- with a staggering $2 trillion one-year deficit -- we say… “We Resist!”

And when Newsweek magazine proclaims “We are All Socialists” and says that federal spending will further expand to 39% of our GDP by next year, we say “We Resist!”

And when, on top of this, the President submits a budget that increases our federal debt by over $9 trillion in the next decade and buries our children and grandchildren under a mountain of debt, we say, “We Resist!”

And when that budget includes the two largest tax increases in American history, including an oppressive $1.9 trillion carbon tax on every American, we say, “We Resist”

And when a power-crazed Congress tries to fast-track the carbon tax and socialized healthcare through back-room procedures, we say, “We Resist!”

And when White House officials speak without shame of controlling the salaries of private sector employees, we way, “We Resist!”

And when this Administration mocks the war on terror by calling it an “Overseas Contingency Operation,” we say, “We Resist!”

And when the President’s Homeland Security department releases a threat “assessment” on “right wing” radicals -- without having ANY evidence of pending right wing activities -- on the eve of these great Tea Party rallies, we say, “We Resist!”

And when top ranking members of Congress like Nancy Pelosi , Dick Durbin and John Kerry say they want to return to the Fairness Doctrine and silence conservative speech, we say, “We Resist!”

And when the President proclaims that the government should provide education to our children “from the day they are born,” we say, “We Resist!”

And when the President says fundamental issues of life are “above his pay grade” and then proceeds to systematically impose a plan that requires taxpayers to fund abortions, we say, “We Resist!”

And when our President proclaims us to be “citizens of the world,” bows to the Saudi Prince and apologies for America’s greatness, we say “We Resist!”

But the fact that we resist is just the beginning. Just as important is HOW we will resist and what we will do when we leave these Tea Parties.

Because this IS and MUST BE a peaceful, idea-based patriotic resistance that leads to a renewal of liberty across our nation.

The good news is, the central issue of our day has finally come to the forefront. America faces two futures; two political worldviews compete for the soul of our nation.

One view -- the view of the Obama administration -- says “only government” can solve our problems. This view always seeks out new ways to expand the role of government further and further into our lives, our families, and our communities.

This view believes that wise government politicians and bureaucrats can devise strategies to restore the economy and even stop the rise of the oceans and heal the planet.

They want to tell us what kind of cars we can drive, what kind of light bulbs we can put in our homes, and how much money we can make.

Let’s be clear. This is statism. This is socialism.

But there is another view -- a view that recognizes the God-given liberties in each individual…. Which understands that rights do NOT come from the state but from the Creator….. That sees government as the servant of the people with specific, enumerated powers…. That rejects the arrogance of utopian central planning and statism….

This view of the world wants YOU to decide what kind of car you drive, what kind of light bulbs light your homes and how much money you make.

So, we boldy move forward and RESIST the statist view. And from this foundation of newfound unity that is so evident at these Tea Party rallies, we will REBUILD and RESTORE.

We will REBUILD upon the sound ideological foundation of freedom-based conservatism. And we will use the tools of the Internet to REBUILD our connections. Finally, we will RESTORE our nation by doing the hard work of winning elections and putting into leadership men and women who are committed FIRST to the ideology of CONSTITUTIONAL LIBERTY and limited government.

RESIST, REBUILD, RESTORE. These Tea Parties are playing a vital role in stirring the hearts and minds of millions of Americans. This is beginning of our patriotic, idea-based resistance. Now, let’s go from here and do the hard work of rebuilding and restoring our nation to once again be that shining city on a hill.
