I think we all feel a sense of frustration and hopelessness based on Friday's health care vote in the House of Representatives (and I use that term loosely).
I'm not sure attacking the troops is necessarily the right tack. I believe we have made a great deal of progress despite Friday's final results. Let's look at where we were and compare it to where we are today.
Last November, America elected what will arguably be remembered the single worst president we've ever had and with him, a large majority of democrats. Since then, we of like mind have banned together in solidarity and have reached out to independents to increase our number and our strenght. We have rallied on significant holidays, marched on DC and have had a huge impact on 3 elections.
This is not a sprint. It is a marathon. We cannot expect to win every fight, but we must learn to find victory even in defeat. We will not be able to turn this country around overnight, We should not expect or want to. Anything worth fighting for is worth slogging through the muck and mire for years to obtain.
Strategically, I view Friday's vote as a win of sorts. If we had won the vote, it would have stopped the bill in its tracks and the fight would be over. Many would put down their arms and return back to their comfortable lives thinking, wrongly, that the war had been won when it was merely 1 skirmish in a much broader fight.
I would like for us all to frame this larger war in terms of a fight for the hearts and minds of those who may agree with us on fundamental principles of freedom, of limited government, individual excellence, and for the protection of and return to our constitution and the values contained therein. In short, we must change people's minds and strengthen them with the truth. With that in mind, so what if Pelosi has won this not altogether significant battle? She knows her time is at hand and that her power is fleeting. All of America watched her desperate manuevering. She has shown herslef to be more corrupt than the politicians who caucus with her and by participation, they are guilty as well. Their days are numbered so long as we keep vigilent to the fight ahead.
The question of whether HR 1392 will pass the House is now academic and the only people to blame are those who wrote and voted for it. Our fight must now move to the senate where Health Care faces a much hihger hurdle. We must prevail in that fight, or delay it until the campaign season returns. If the Senate drags its feet, as it historically does, 1/3 of the Senate will be up for re-election. 33 seats will be up for grabs. Should they go to conservatives, Health Care will be defeated.
