Recently my wife and I went to a large gun show in Indianapolis. While at our hotel, I was talking with a lady about our gun rights as U.S. citizens. She showed me her pistol that she kept in her purse.

She told me that Indiana citizens have a right to concealed carry to protect themselves and their families. I told her that I was from the socialist state of Illinois that forbids honest citizens to carry even though the criminals and gang bangers illegally carry to prey on unarmed citizens.

Article I, section 22 of our Illinois Constitution allows for our right to carry as well as our federal Constitution in the Second Amendment, yet we are denied.

Thomas Jefferson's intent on that Second Amendment is very clear, as he wrote, ``All power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that is their right and duty to be at all times armed.''

As Americans we must never forget that these rights given to us by our forefathers are never to be infringed. I explained that even states with right to carry laws must be on guard. Our new president, Barack Obama, comes from Chicago, which does not even allow any citizen to as much as own a handgun. I believe that this gun-hating mentality will carry over into his presidency. Anyone who researches his voting record as senator will see this.

The next day at the gun show, while attempting to purchase a handgun for my collection, I was informed that even with my valid FOID card they could not sell a handgun to anyone from Illinois.

Let's change Illinois laws back to the Constitution before Obama's ``change'' destroys our Second Amendment for all states.
