Replaced Rep. Joanne Davis following her death after her courageous battle with breast cancer. Re-elected in 2008. Serves on Armed Services Committee and Natural Resources Committee.

Representative Wittman read the healthcare reform bill and voted nay to H.R. 3962. He agreed there are many loopholres for abuse by illegal aliens in addition to high costs which would necessitate tax increases as well as an unfair burden placed upon seniors due to 500 billion cuts in medicare which would lead to rationed care. He stated that Congress should participate in any healthcare program if passed into law. He met with voters from Virginia District 1 following Michelle Bachmann's House Call on Capitol Hill. He does not support the Cap & Trade bill.

Rep. Wittman held a town hall meeting at the Dodd Auuditorium of the University of Mary Washington on Tuesday September 1, 2009. During this meeting he stated he believes health care needs reforming, but that the current Democratic proposals need to be trashed. He stated he can not support it because he believes it doesn't reduce costs, doesn't focus on uninsured Americans, and that it changes part of the system that works.
