According to the FEC.gov

Tom Perriello is on top of the fundraising efforts for the 2010 5th District Congressional campaign with a total 1.03 million as of Jan 31st.

Here is how the others are doing:

Jim McKelvey $501,200  ($500,000 is his own money)
Robert Hurt $293,458
Laurance Verga $287,604
Kenneth Boyd $47,909
Feda Kidd Morton $25,110
Mike McPadden $18,428
Virgil Goode  $4,809 (Goode has not announced he is running)

O.K.  resistors,  what is going on in the 5th?  Why can't we just pick a candidate an rally behind them.  At the debate on Jan 22, 2010 a spector made the comment to me that "The Republican will win, we just need to get the right one"  Well, I'm not so sure that the "R" is going to win. We are running out of time.

Periello is backed by George Soros, No one is going to beat him in fundraising. But it won't do him any good. He's going down.

I am not as concerned about Perriello funding raising ability as I am about the inability of the Tea Party to rally behind one candidate. Tea Party groups do not like Robert Hurt who seems to be the GOP pick, but can't seem to rally behind one of the other candidates. So this will give us a liberal or a RINO to choose from in Nov.

Michelle Stanley is correct. Every one of those candidates claims to support the Tea Party principles. They all think that is the way to vistory, but they are forgetting a basic election strategy that is play. As Ross Perot did to Bush 41 they are dividing the funds and the vote. It will be a shoe in for Perriello, if this fiasco continues. There is not enough time between the primary in June and the general election in November to make up the difference in support and money. The Republican Party of Virginia does not want a repeat of the 23rd District in New York, so they are forcing a primary. Although well intentioned it is foolish. There is already one candidate that has made it known that if he does not win the primary he may run as an independent. Charlottesville like most university towns is left leaning if they garner too much of the vote for Perriello the rest of the district will not be able to overcome that difference. We need to start putting pressure on the Republican Party to strongly suggest that they get behind the populous choice for the primary candidate NOT the "moderate choice" . The moderate will LOSE because many independents like me will not vote for a Democrat light. You think Republican Party would smarten up by now.

The Republican Party has created this stuttering and stammering in getting behind a single candidate. The 5th district leadership's lack of regard for and listening to the member's wishes (this sounds like the same reason the Tea Parties got together against the Dems). I for one am waiting for the primary to get over with; because I too believe it will be Hurt. Then the real conservatives need to get behind a candidate that will run on principles and not spew the party line.
I am tired of both parties, both have lost touch with the mainstream constituents and BOTH PARTIES have sucked off us until there is little left. The operation of this government MUST change and we all know that Perriello is a Democratic lap dog. I doubt that Hurt can deliver he is too beholding to the GOP. There are 2 or 3 that are running that I am interested in and depending on the primary vote, I may be firmly behind a republican or calling for a true principled conservative to run against them both. I for one will longer vote a party line based on the fear that it will re-enforce the re-election of the incumbent. I intend to vote for the candidate that best represents my principles. I am not trying to argumentative but it is not possible for me to get behind someone when I don't know who that someone is, at least as of yet.

Mr. Conner this type of attitude is exactly what allowed Bill Clinton to get into office when a great portion of the voters supported Ross Perot. The Dems love this. They will retain the house and senate if we don't get together. Okay so we vote for a not so conservative this year. We can deal with that and then work on a good candidate the next two years and get rid of him. But WE THE PEOPLE should vote as a block and kick all the DEMS as far out of VA as we can. Small Steps Sir.

Mr. Hall,
I too want the liberals out of office whether it be Democratic or Republican. And I understand your position and logic. I have historically voted republican but the actions of the 5th district leadership and some of the leadership at the national level, have further proved that they too are out of touch. The sooner WE THE PEOPLE set a standard and expect the individuals that are going to serve us live up to it the better we will be. I will say that, for the most part, I am fairly happy with 2 or 3 that are running and think they are worthy of serious consideration. But I will not vote Republican for Republican's sake. Thank you for your comments.

This is part of the problem the Tea Party is having, both of you make excellent points. I can't stress enough to everyone. NOW is the time to get involved, research the candidates, get behind the one you feel is the best and help them campaign. If we can get a STRONG conservative through the primary process, we can avoid the mess of a NY23. or WORST Perriello gets re-elected.
