"We have all heard of the movement in congress to require candidates to file a birth certificate before running for president.
Perhaps a better approach would be to have each state pass a law or constitutional requirement that will require a candidate for office (any office) to file certified copies of documents proving eligibility for all requirements with the Secretary of State of that state to show their eligibility for that office and for the Secretary of State to post those documents online before the candidate's name could be placed on the ballot, this would include primary elections.
Write-in candidates are allowed, but would be required to file necessary documents after winning and before certification of election."
Legislative intent:
Certified copies of birth certificates, naturalization papers and other documents showing the candidate is an American Citizen (Birth certificates proving natural born in the case of president and vice president), legal age and otherwise qualified much along the same lines as the Patriot Act requires various forms of identification and documentation in an effort to battle money laundering by terrorists."
My thinking is that if one state refuses to allow a candidate on the ballot, that it would pretty well knock him down in most other states.
