I'm just delighted that Ben Nelson voted AGAINST Obama's budget. Small victory, but it's something. MoveOn spent a lot of money trying to get him to vote their way -- and they are spending more trying to shame him -- with emails and a website to help Nebraskans write letters to local newspapers:

Congressman Terry is a good guy, but he can be more careful than I like. He does respond to constituent input, which I like. Last week, I called and asked him to be a co-sponsor of HR 1207, Paul's bill to audit the Fed.

Terry needs to be sent clear messages on voters' expectations. I believe this feedback from constituents emboldens Terry.

Sorry, Nancy, but Nelson's vote on the budget is a bunch of gutless hooey. From time to time, he chooses to vote "correctly" but NEVER courageously. He does this strategically and occasionally and ONLY to give himself "cover" and to keep you from hating him utterly. DO NOT give him any credit on this past vote.

If the man had Nebraskans in mind, he would not have ENGINEERED the passage of the "porkulous" bill. Nelson voted to confirm Turbo Tax Tim Geithner and FALN terrorist-loving Eric Holder. It was JOHANNS who offered the amendment that kept Dirty Harry Reid from passing that piece of nonsense spending bill by reconciliation. JOHANNS had the courage to stand up to the Dem's, not Nelson.

Make no mistake: The water in Johanns' bucket is from the Platte. Nelson's is from the Potomac.

Hey Sarah -- I understand what you mean -- it's kind of like Obama voting "present" all the time. And I have to admit, I've voted for Nelson in the past -- he seemed fiscally responsible in the past (but to be honest, I never paid much attention to local politics until now). Anyway, I will never vote for him again because of the part in played in getting the stimulus package passed.

I sent him so many emails urging him to vote against the budget, that I at least wanted to thank him for doing so.

I do think it's very important to contact our "representatives" about every issue that's important to us. Also, to be polite, you know? The next step, of course, is boot his buttooski out of office!!!!!

***************** Nancy, my bet is that he will not run again--for the same reason Hagel did not run in 2008. When the dust settles on this administration, Nelson will be one of the casualties. He won't be able to be elected "Dog Catcher" in this state. He is in "legacy building" mode. He wants to go out on a high note. We should not allow him to get away with that. He is a pawn of the left. A pox on his house for that. He has sold us down the river. There is no forgiveness for that, and I am not going to let him off the hook. Now, if there were some way of cutting down the obnoxious retirement these jerks in Congress have voted themselves...........

Excellent point - I hope you are right! Let's hope he wants his "legacy" to be well thought of in NE and NOT in D.C. Let's also hope whoever runs to replace him is either so radical that only ACORN members vote for him, or so lame that only Hope and Change mushy-heads vote for him. I believe Conservatives are poised to make a HUGE comeback.
