EVERYONE!

I am going down to Springfield on the 10th to act as a witness for Jim Sacia. I have to be there by 8:30 AM

anyway...

Bill HB4810 is coming out of committee, it's the bill that we are trying to get through where: if you are on Welfare you need to take a monthly drug test, and pass, in order to keep your benefits.

I would like everyone to send me in separate emails telling me their honest opinion about this bill.

I personally support it because as a working individual I am subject to drug testing when ever my company sees fit, and I WORK for my money.

I plan on printing these emails out, both the Pros and Cons, and take them along to Springfield with me, to present at the Capital.

Would you be comfortable sending my request out to all of your friends and committee lists?

I am footing the bill on this so to save me ink please, keep them short and to the point and include your name and addresses.

The unprecedented obstructionism in the Senate today forces a rethinking and modernization of the filibuster rule.

If you're as fed up with the filibuster as I am, please sign my petition to fix it today.

It's time to end the filibuster as we know it.

The American people are sick of process blocking progress. They're fed up with an arbitrary tradition that allows a minority of Senators to prevent popular, much-needed legislation from even coming to a vote. They're exasperated with Republicans' veiled attempts to kill meaningful reform -- pleas for "more time" and "starting from scratch" -- which were on full display at yesterday's White House health care summit.

Frankly, so am I.

Sign my petition at FedUpWithTheFilibuster.com today -- and show your support for filibuster reform, such as the Harkin-Shaheen proposal, to eliminate the crippling 60-vote requirement to overcome a filibuster.

From the public option to financial reform, a few dozen Senate Republicans have used the threat of a filibuster dozens and dozens of times, blocking much of the sweeping change voters demanded when they elected President Obama and strong Democratic majorities to Congress. The right-wing obstructionists consistently misuse and abuse the filibuster simply to score political points, at the expense of the American people.

The Harkin-Shaheen proposal would continue to provide ample time for a minority of Senators to voice their concerns about legislation and seek changes. But it would eliminate the permanent 60-vote cloture requirement to overcome a filibuster, gradually reducing the necessary vote threshold as debate continues, preventing the minority from using the procedural tactic to obstruct progress indefinitely.

Commonsense proposals like this would allow a simple majority of Senators to end an obstructionist filibuster if it has dragged on for several days or weeks. And they would allow Congress to get back into the business of sending popular, much-needed legislation -- like a strong health care reform bill -- to the President's desk.

Changing the filibuster is no pipe dream. In fact, back in the 1970s the Senate successfully amended what was a 67-vote cloture requirement to the current 60-vote requirement.

But the unprecedented obstructionism we find in the Senate today forces another rethinking and modernization of the filibuster rule.

By letting your Senators know you're as fed up with the filibuster as I am, we can change it, once more.

When our Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution and drafted the initial rules of the Senate, they never intended requiring a supermajority to pass any and all legislation. They just wanted to be sure that Senators took time to carefully debate and consider bills before taking votes. That's exactly what reforms like the Harkin-Shaheen proposal will do.

We cannot continue to allow a minority of Senators to paralyze progress. Together we can restore majority rule and make Congress work for the American people again.

Note! 3rd. District U.S. Representative, Dan Lipinski just betrayed his country & his constituency by voting for the Cap & trade bill about to hit us like a lead brick in our utility bills. We must ensure he is not re-elected unless he recants if there is a motiuon to reconsider the bill.

Dear Senator Burris,

If hate crimes were to be applied across the board to all violators, then I may be able to agree, but when hate crimes are equivocated with "right wing" crimes, then I take insult from it. For example, the murder of abortionist Tiller, was labelled a right wing extremist terrorist act, as opposed to the murdering of & wounding two military recruiters by a left wing nut, receiving about 1/5th the coverage of the right wing crime. Murder is murder & leftists have justified the unbalanced coverage by saying there is a difference in the profiles & stature of the victims. What a lie, why is killing an abortionist to be considered a greater crime than that of killing a military man, who is willing to die for his country to save the likes of abortionists who kill other human beings, namely fetuses.

Of course again, your definition of humanity is different than mine also. I believe human life begins at conception & any other theory is a lie of deception, to justify the killing of innocent human beings. Abortion is murder & Doctor Tiller was a murderer by definition! The law has been perverted to protect him from prosecution & punished accordingly. It is not so bad that the unborn are innocent, but what makes it even more disgusting is that they are helpless to defend themselves. It takes a coward to kill an unborn baby, not a doctor, I am sure if Tiller was not making a lot of money he would've probably chosen a different field. The act of a Mother sentencing an unborn child to execution prior to or upon entering this world is inhumane to say the least.

One fact to note and if you still cannot agree, then you are not the man to serve as my Senator, is the fact that if your Mother had decided you were not a valuable person & aborted you, we would then have a different Senator right now, wouldn't we? Maybe that Senator would be a "right to life" supporter. Is it possible that we would not have broken the racial barrier in electing a black man as President if Obama were aborted?

Every life has value, someday you should read the life story of Helen Keller. I am sure you have heard of her. She is probably one of the greatest examples to show that abortion is wrong & evil & that every life has value & a purpose in God's eyes. Of course that may still be another problem, if you don't believe in or trust in God's purposes for every individual then you can never support the sanctity of life, can you?

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. I appreciate your correspondence on such an important issue.

Current law defines hate crime as any crime against either person or property in which the offender intentionally selects the victim because of the victim's actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, or disability. Currently, hate crimes are not separate or distinct offenses under federal law; rather, they are traditional crimes that are committed by individuals who are motivated by one or more biases that are considered to be damaging to society as a whole.

I believe that hate crimes are fundamentally different from other offenses. Hate crimes are often not limited to the specific victim, but are committed with the intention of inspiring fear in a larger group. For this reason, I feel it is appropriate to enact federal legislation that deals separately with hate crimes. While I understand the concern over federal hate crime legislation infringing on freedom of speech, I believe that this legislation will not obstruct citizens from expressing their religious or political views unless such expression involves acts of physical violence.

The Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act would add "sexual orientation" to existing Federal hate crimes statutes. This bill supports existing local efforts to combat discrimination while preserving our nation’s strong heritage of religious expression and racial diversity. In short, those who seek to intimidate or threaten a specific social group with acts of violence will be held responsible under Federal law.

Again, thank you for writing. Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind when this legislation comes to the Senate.
