I was very un-PC the other day - my grandson, who's 8, told me he got a trophy at the football banquet. I was very pleased for him and asked what it was for...he said because he was on the team. I said, yes, I understood that, but what was the trophy for...he looked at me funny and repeated because he was on the team. So I tried asking in a different way - I asked him what exactly did he DO to earn such an honor. This time I got a really perplexed look from him...Grandma, he said, everyone gets a trophy just cuz their on the team...oh, I said, you mean you didn't do anything to earn it - he said no, he didn't have to do anything for it. So of course I had to ask him if he was proud of his trophy...he said he was. And you know, I then had to ask him why he was proud if he didn't do anything to earn it, to which he replied "can I have some cookies?" Maybe 8 is a little too young to understand, but you gotta start sometime!

Keep up the good work Donna,
I use to say to my daughters when they were little girls. "Half of what I say to you I say it just to reach you".
They are now grown up and they tell me. "Dad even though we rolled our eyes we listened. what you taught us growing up is what guides us when we are in doubt. Keep it up Donna. You will be blessed when he becomes a grown man. --- Roger
