Senator David Vitter voted against Sotomayor.

Here is his letter with reasons why.

Dear Friend,

Today I voted against Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court because I have very serious concerns about Judge Sotomayor in a number of areas, including whether she understands the proper role of the judge as an impartial umpire – not picking winners and losers based on empathy or personal biases.

During her confirmation hearings, Judge Sotomayor made some additional statements that gave me pause, specifically her ambiguity about the right of every American to the Second Amendment, her belief in the use of foreign law in decision-making and her terse and dismissive comments on her handling of the firefighters discrimination case.

The Constitution is clear that Supreme Court justices must interpret the law and not legislate from the bench. I’m not certain that Judge Sotomayor will be able to refrain from legislating from the bench, and more important, I believe President Obama is counting on her to do so based on his own past statements in support of an activist judiciary.

For these reasons, I opposed her nomination.

The Picture of Steve Scalise is on this page so folks will know who he is..
This is his congressional District so it is appropriate to have his picture in with his district...all our Congressional Districts here on this website have pictures of their Congressional Representatives...
