The link is to the Arizona Citizens Defense League. I am sure you know that they are the ones really watching many of the bills related to gun rights downtown and are very effective, active grassroots group with lots of brain power. I joined them long ago. I would suggest that others here add this link if they do not know of this group. They have had several major pro-gun victories in the Legislature in AZ.

Here are some other bills that need to be shot down......contact your local legislators on these:

SB 1004
Waring - unlawful false compartment; motor vehicles

Creates a felony offense for having a compartment in a motor vehicle that “is intended and designed to be used to conceal, hide or prevent discovery by law enforcement officers.” Of course, any hidden compartment in a vehicle could be construed in such a fashion, and nearly every vehicle on the road has at least one such compartment. The language is far too broad and open to interpretation.

AzCDL strongly opposes this bill.

This bill is in direct violation of the "Castle doctrine" extension (Harper) that passed in one of the last legislative sessions where a non-permit holder had the right to carry a handgun in their map pocket door of their car.

SB 1243, clarifying when "Defensive Display" is justified, has 18 co-sponsors. This bill is similar to an AzCDL-requested bill filed last year that passed in the Legislature but was vetoed by our former anti-rights Governor. Defensive display includes:

- Verbally informing another person that you have a firearm available.
- Exposing or displaying a firearm in a manner that conveys you mean to protect yourself.
- Placing your hand on your firearm while it is holstered or in a pocket, purse or other means of containment.

HB 2171
Antenori - firearms; restaurants

Firearms must be permitted in certain restaurants if they derive more than 50% of their gross revenue from the sale of food.

AzCDL supports the concept of Restaurant Carry and supports this bill. It needs some work, but is a good start. We will attempt to work with the sponsor to secure needed amendments during the legislative process.


HB 2607, the AzCDL-requested Campus Carry bill, was filed on Monday, February 9, 2009, the last day for bills to be filed this session. HB 2607 removes the authority of a governing board to prohibit a person who possesses a CCW permit from carrying a concealed firearm on the property of an educational institution (i.e., College or University).

It was touch-and-go for awhile. This legislation was drafted and sponsorship was obtained, but the bill was not filed by the Senate deadline. To keep the bill alive, Dave Kopp and John Wentling, AzCDL's president and vice-president, successfully lobbied for Campus Carry to be filed in the House before the House deadline.

All AzCDL-requested bills for this session have now been filed (Constitutional Carry, Defensive Display, Campus Carry, and CCW Reform). Plus there are a number of other pro-rights bills we are supporting. As they begin to move through the legislative process we will notify you via these Alerts. Stay tuned.

Please contact your legislators and ask for their support of these important bills. If AZ truly invokes the 10th Amendment challenge to the Feds then passage of these bills becomes even more important.

I know we all try to read as much of the important blogs and get involved where we can, but if we don't get involved with killing (pun intended) HR 45 do you really want to live in a Obama democrat country where the finally do what they did in the UK and Australia where all guns are illegal to own outside of LE and military.

Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 - Amends the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act to prohibit a person from possessing a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm license under this Act or a state system certified under this Act and such license has not been invalidated or revoked. Prescribes license application, issuance, and renewal requirements.
Prohibits transferring or receiving a qualifying firearm unless the recipient presents a valid firearms license, the license is verified, and the dealer records a tracking authorization number. Prescribes firearms transfer reporting and record keeping requirements. Directs the Attorney General to establish and maintain a federal record of sale system.
Prohibits: (1) transferring a firearm to any person other than a licensee, unless the transfer is processed through a licensed dealer in accordance with national instant criminal background check system requirements, with exceptions; (2) a licensed manufacturer or dealer from failing to comply with reporting and record keeping requirements of this Act; (3) failing to report the loss or theft of the firearm to the Attorney General within 72 hours; (4) failing to report to the Attorney General an address change within 60 days; or (5) keeping a loaded firearm, or an unloaded firearm and ammunition for the firearm, knowingly or recklessly disregarding the risk that a child is capable of gaining access, if a child uses the firearm and causes death or serious bodily injury.
Prescribes criminal penalties for violations of firearms provisions covered by this Act.
Directs the Attorney General to: (1) establish and maintain a firearm injury information clearinghouse; (2) conduct continuing studies and investigations of firearm-related deaths and injuries; and (3) collect and maintain current production and sales figures of each licensed manufacturer

RUMORS OF INCLUSION OF GUN LEGISLATION IN STIMULUS BILL ~ FALSE!

We have been hearing many rumors, and receiving many inquiries, about "buried" provisions in the federal economic stimulus bill that would negatively affect our Second Amendment rights. People have claimed the bill would designate interstate highways as national parks, or impose ammunition encoding and new ammunition taxes. Fortunately, and contrary to what you may have heard, there are no provisions in this bill prohibiting firearms or ammunition anywhere, or for anyone.

The only reference in the bill to firearms is a provision authorizing funds for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' (BATFE) "Project Gunrunner," which is a program that enforces existing laws to reduce smuggling of firearms from the United States to Mexico. This program imposes no new restrictions on gun owners, and if it did, we can assure you we would take swift action.

It always attonishes me when some think they can just change our freedoms at their whem...it is an outrage!! We have every right to bear arms and not be questioned about that at all...it is the lawbreakers and groups that harm others that need theirs taken...which will never happen. To give up protecting ones self is a foolish move, and a way to end up a victum of not having a means of protection, especially these days of liberal thinking, ways of living and careless officials.

Important Worker Protection Bill Heading to House Floor in Arizona!

House Bill 2474, sponsored by State Representatives John Kavanagh (R-8) and Frank Antenori (R-30), passed the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, March 5 by a 6-2 vote. HB 2474 now heads to the House Floor.

HB 2474 would protect your right to lawfully transport and store firearms in your privately-owned locked motor vehicle while parked in publicly accessible parking lots controlled by your employer or a business you frequent.

Please contact the members of the Arizona House of Representatives and respectfully urge them to support your right to protect yourself while traveling to and from work by voting for HB 2474. Contact information for your State Representative can be found by clicking here.
