Angel, I live on the border between Milbrook and Elmore. It was unincorporated until recently. The front of the subdivision is integrated; the back, wooded part where I am at is empty. All this talk of the Confederate Flag reminds me of a story that was on one of Montgomery, Alabama's tv news programs, I can't remember which or the date but here goes.

During the time of people having a fit about those capitols in the south flying the confederate flag alongside the US and their State flag there was a black man who draped himself in a Confederate Flag and commenced to walk from somewhere in the carolinas to New Orleans. He said he was making a point (I can't remember any of the words) that he was for the Confederate Flag and wanted those who wanted it taken down to keep flying it wherever it might be. I should have listened better but I was cooking supper and was only listening w/one ear as they say. What struck me about this was - here was a black man making a point to try save the confederate flag. Where was the white man?

We have seen it time and time again. Someone gets elected with grand plans to help their district, or state, or nation. They go to Washington, DC to do a job, and then they never want to leave. They become part of the system, and the goal then becomes to get reelected for the sake of holding office, not doing the job they were elected to do.

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) recognizes this problem and has introduced an amendment to the U.S. Constitution in order to end what he calls "permanent politicians."

"Americans know real change in Washington will never happen until we end the era of permanent politicians," said Senator DeMint. "As long as members have the chance to spend their lives in Washington, their interests will always skew toward spending taxpayer dollars to buyoff special interests, covering over corruption in the bureaucracy, fundraising, relationship building among lobbyists, and trading favors for pork – in short, amassing their own power. I have come to realize that if we want to change the policies coming out of Congress, we must change the process itself. Over the last 20 years, Washington politicians have been reelected about 90% of the time because the system is heavily tilted in favor of incumbents. If we really want to put an end to business as usual, we’ve got to have new leaders coming to Washington instead of rearranging the deck chairs as the ship goes down.”

The amendment is co-sponsored by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), and Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS).
END OF INPUT BY ANGEL SHOLDER

A Constitutional Amendment is not necessary to achieve desired effects offered above. An Act of Congress established 1. The Federal Reserve Bank Act of 1913, 2. The Bretton Woods Agreement Act of 1945, and 3. The North American Free Trade Agreement effective Jan 1, 1994. Likewise, an Act of Congress can be passed to eliminate the career politician, but moreso ". . . to change the process itself." You are invited here to visit the following: http://www.mensch.net/ovaloffice/a2struct.htm
Purpose:
To understand the structure of the United States as national household, the circular flow of money (units of currency) of that household, and that the wealth of that nation resides in the talents of the individuals who occupy the only populated segment of the national household structure. Within that dialogue, you will find another link:
http://www.mensch.net/ovaloffice/caction2.htm

citing corrective actions that would put government at all levels (Federal, State and Local) on fixed budget incomes and three other necessary changes.

Uh Oh! I forgot, Raymond - I have made a similar statement on other sites where I am a member.

We did not capture black people, they were sold for the most by tribes who captured another tribe's people and marched them to the coast to be sold to slave ships. Most of these ships dropped them off up north not the south!

You are right!
Angel Sholder Comment by Angel Sholder 1 day ago
Exactly where do you live? I live in Titus, Elmore Cty, Alabama and we flew a confederate flag for years. Of course, we live in a subdivision that has Lake Jordan frontage on Weoka Creek. As of right now I think there might 1 family of blacks who live in this subdivision. It's not because we don't want them, but they do not come looking. There is nothing in the plat of this subdivision that prevents them from owning a place here or living here.
Lee Prince Comment by Lee Prince 1 day ago
Raymond, I wouldn't fly a Japanese or German flag. I suspect now that they are allies no one would bother me. I would also NOT FLY an Islamic flag. Number 1, I politically incorrectly hate them so I couldn't. I also suspect there is a group in my neighborhood (on my side) that would also cause me to fear for my life. I do live in an integrated neighborhood and some of the blacks would (wrongly) assume my flying a Confederate flag was a statement of a racist person, even though we both know that is not true. So I do have an American flag that I fly, but my Confederate materials stay inside the privacy of my own home. Believe me, I am NOT politically incorrect. But I would not my family or property threatened wrongly because of a wrong idea in some stranger's head..

When the Founding Fathers came together to craft the Constitution, they brought with them many ideas in which America would be set apart from other nations. First and foremost, the power would reside in the people and not an all powerful king or all powerful government.

The government was divided into three branches so that power could be shared. In addition, the Founding Fathers believed in the notion of a "citizen legislator." The idea of a "career politician" was foreign to them. People were lawyers, or craftsmen, or farmers. They did not make a "living" from politics. As we have seen over the years, regardless of what party is in power... power corrupts. It's time to get rid of the career politician and bring back the citizen legislator. And... there is only one way to do this: a constitutional amendment.

The amendment would apply term limits to all members of Congress. The president of the United States is already term-limited by constitutional amendment to two full terms or 8 years. The DeMint amendment would limit U.S. representatives to three terms in office and senators to two terms. A term for a representative is two years, while a senator serves for six.

One of the classic arguments against term limits is that a politician needs long experience in order to govern properly. This is completely crazy, and I completely agree with DeMint's comments on that subject:

“Some say only long-serving, seasoned elites have the skills to lead the people, but that’s exactly what we have today and how do you think it’s working out for us?” said Senator DeMint. “It wasn’t the ‘people’ who gave us a $12 trillion debt, an IRS tax code seven times longer than the Bible, over 1,700 departments of the federal government, trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see, $100 trillion long-term shortfall in Social Security and Medicare, the Wall Street and auto bailouts, and the pending health care takeover. “This nation can no longer afford these entrenched men and women who enjoy lives of luxury wholly insulated from the consequences of their major policy failures."

I whole-heartedly support this action. The problem is that for the Constitution to be amended, the proposed amendment must pass by two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate and then be ratified by three-fourths of the states. Thus, Congress has to first pass an amendment that would bring to an end their perks and power.

As noted in the Washington Times, "Senate leaders and longtime Washington watchdogs said Mr. DeMint's bill had a zero chance of becoming law, mostly because of a general lack of interest and the high hurdles to amending the Constitution."

Thus, the only way such a measure could pass is if the public got behind it. We have seen what can happen with the Tea Party movement and the 9/12 Project. Americans are more than frustrated with the federal government. Enough is enough!

It's time to put an end to career politicians in Washington, DC. Go there, do your job, and come back home!

Lee,
Thank you,you have made my point far better than I ever could have.
Let me see, if I have this right; you would be in fear of your life if you flew a Confederate Battle Flag.

What would happen if you flew, let's say, a Japaneese flag(remember Pear Harbor) or say a German Flag (remember the Holocaust) or maybe a Muslim Flag (remember 911)?

I am guessing that would be O K. But, no Confederate Battle Flag that is an international symbol of independence and freedom.

Keep in mind, that there would NOT be a United States of America. without South Carolina. South Carolina, contributed more in money and resources than ALL the other 12 COLONIES COMBINED to secure our freedom from England The KING OF ENGLAND COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DEFEATED with out South Carolina.

Please, keep in mind, there has never, been one Slave, brought to this Country or any other, UNDER the Confederate Battle flag, but millions under The flag of the United States.

Do you think it would be a hate crime. If i referred to my self as a Confederate-American? You know politically correct!!!!

Don't worry, I believe you are either an AMERICAN, or you or not.!!!!

Deo Vindice

Raymond, believe me, I believe in the troops and I also happen to believe in their mission against Islamist Jihadism. I love the Confederate flag and what it stands for. But if I flew it outside my house where I live, I'd be in physical danger. And we know that because of the lies of the "civil rights" and liberal/fascist/communist folks out there, the politicians are afraid to raise the Confederate flag even where I work here in the State capitol where all the flags of all the states are raised and even in front of the First Confederate White House.
Raymond Harris Comment by Raymond Harris on November 18, 2009 at 9:06am
Before government can guarantee provision of a specific good or service to any one individual, thus creating a so-called “positive right,” it must first take by force the means of producing that very good or service from someone else.

Health care is no different.

But how can taking what belongs to another person (their money, time, or effort) through legislative force be a right?

Is that not the very essence of slavery?
