Splitting Votes? Accepting RINOs foisted on us by "Elites" in the RNC?

There's been a lot of discussion going on about "splitting the vote". I agree that the correct answer is for conservatives to start promoting and electing conservatives at all levels of government. BUT, I resent being told time and again that even if there is a solid conservative candidate out there, I'm expected to vote a party line out of fear of splitting the vote!

You all may do whatever you wish. However, I maintain that the Republican Party Leaders will NEVER get the message if we keep sucking it up and voting for whatever RINO they select.

I also believe strongly that the best message we can send them today is to tell them via letters, phone, and e-mails that we will not send any money to the RNC--EVER AGAIN! That effectively curbs their ability to run over us. Now with that said, I also believe, in the next breath, we need to tell them that we will give double to any conservative candidate. What I'm trying to impress here is that we can become the Republican Party of Reagan again if we are willing to ONLY send our support to those who exemplify those principles.

In the article below, Mr. Gingrich is quoted as sayinjg it's not his place to question the wisdom of local party leaders, while he also expressed concern that if "we're going to purge the party of anybody who doesn't agree with us 100 percent [then] that guarantees Obama's re-election." Well, to a point, I can agree with that. Obviously, we all are never going to agree 100% of the time; but it should be our responsibility to not only question the "wisdom" of local party leaders, but to challenge them when they support anyone so totally out of synch with conservative values. If we don't question and push, and support the right candidates, then we will get more of the same.

So, my bottom line is this: I will not send any money to any candidate who is not basically conservative (supports smaller government, lower taxes, less government interference in the private sector, and sanctity of life). That's me; it may not be you. However, if at the general election, I am forced to choose between not voting or selecting a "conservative who meets most of those criteria", I'll hold my nose and vote for them--at least for now.

The following article is by Mark Alexander of the Patriot Post an excellent source for keeping up with what's going on in the world of politics. http://patriotpost.us/

New York Congressional Special Election
The special election to fill the upstate New York congressional seat vacated when Republican John McHugh was cleverly appointed secretary of the Army by Barack Obama has quickly become the most controversial race this year.

The Democrat candidate is businessman and lawyer Bill Owens, but the real contest here is between Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who is even leading in some polls, and Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava. As we have previously noted, Hoffman, a self-made millionaire, assumed the Conservative mantle after local GOP leaders picked the shamefully liberal Scozzafava as their candidate.

National Republican figures have come out in force to back either Hoffman or Scozzafava, and by doing so they have outlined the ideological battle lines that exist within the GOP. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich endorsed Scozzafava, a New York Assemblywoman. Gingrich said that it's not his place to question the wisdom of local party leaders, while he also expressed concern that if "we're going to purge the party of anybody who doesn't agree with us 100 percent [then] that guarantees Obama's re-election."

Gingrich may have a point here, but looking at Scozzafava's background, one might wonder if she's agreed with the Party even 10 percent of the time. She has been tied to ACORN and their leftist Working Families Party, she is pro-choice, pro-stimulus package and pro-card check for unions. In fact, she makes party-jumpin' Arlen Specter look like a Reaganite.

Hoffman, on the other hand, is an avowed fiscal conservative who carries a strong message of bringing economic responsibility to Washington. Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, Dick Armey, Fred Thompson and Rick Santorum have all lined up behind him. They have all stressed the importance of sticking to the conservative principles that are, or at least were, the backbone of the Republican Party.

No, No, No. I guess I didn't make my point clear. I do NOT agree with Newt and his support of DEDE.

I only quoted him to point out how wrong headed it is to operate under the premise that we shouldn't question party leaders.

My point is WE SHOULD , not only question, but openly and arduously oppose any party leader that tries to shove a RINO--non-conservative down our throats.

At one time I respected Newt Gingrich. That time has passed. If he doesn't have the courage of his convictions to question local party leaders, then I don't want him speaking for me.

I don't get your thought of having Obama all over it.

Bill -- I get what you're saying, and agree with pretty much every word. As a registered Republican for almost 30 years, I am fed up with the GOP's obsession with being cool, trendy and lefty like the Democrats. It's as if they have become ashamed of the Reagan revolution. I used to make annual donations to all the GOP committees. I have now stopped that, and am donating that money to specific conservative candidates regardless of party affiliation. One of those candidates is Doug Hoffman. Electing a conservative Congress is much more important than electing a Republican Congress.

What happened to the GOP's principles? In races all across America the GOP is putting up RINOs to run against their own conservative candidates in primaries, and the GOP is supplying the RINOs with a disproportionate share of the funding. Talk about stacking the deck for the lefties! The RINO strategy they are following has failed in the last two elections, and will fail even more miserably in 2010 if they don't change their ways. I find it hypocritical that Newt would say he can't question local party officials about decisions that hurt the Party, but then he harshly criticizes the Republicans who support the independent conservative over the RINO! What a farce!

Electing as many independent/third party conservatives as possible over the RINOs is a winning strategy because the independent/third party conservatives will caucus with the Republicans. That keeps the Republicans honest and moving to the right. In contrast, the GOP's RINO strategy is a losing strategy. It can't get candidates elected because the Party base can't stand RINO candidates. But even if a miracle happens and the strategy succeeds, all we end up with is a GOP Congressional majority chocked full of liberals. Meet the new bosses -- the same as the old bosses!

"Our party must be the party of the individual. It must not sell out the individual to cater to the group. No greater challenge faces our society today than ensuring that each one of us can maintain his dignity and his identity in an increasingly complex, centralized society. Extreme taxation, excessive controls, oppressive government competition with business ... frustrated minorities and forgotten Americans are not the products of free enterprise. They are the residue of centralized bureaucracy, of government by a self-anointed elite. Our party must be based on the kind of leadership that grows and takes its strength from the people. Any organization is in actuality only the lengthened shadow of its members. A political party is a mechanical structure created to further a cause. The cause, not the mechanism, brings and holds the members together. And our cause must be to rediscover, reassert and reapply America's spiritual heritage to our national affairs. Then with God's help we shall indeed be as a city upon a hill with the eyes of all people upon us." --Ronald Reagan

"We want to CONTROL the agenda so as to insure that we bring what WE want to the floor and let the dems try to filibuster without the necessary votes."

So if we follow your advice and elect all the RINOs that the GOP is putting up, how can conservatives control the agenda?

While I understand showing the Republican party we don't want RHINOS....I simply feel we need Obama and that admin OUT ASAP and we CANNOT TAKE ANY CHANCES WHATSOEVER in doing that......WHATEVER it takes .....FOR NOW..........

I just don't think NOW is the time to try and "fix" the party....too much is at stake .....We dont have someone "normal" in power...we have a DICTATOR in power and HE MUST GO ASAP...... We CANNOT FAIL...........If we do...our country is DONE......

This is why....I have reservations on "splitting votes". It's NOT because.....I like the rhinos....or don't want rid of them....cause I DO....but if Obama gets another four years....you can kiss this country goodbye.....we will be lucky if we can hold him off from destroying us in the 4 he has now......Sometimes its not what YOU WANT....its what you MUST do to SURVIVE......Priorities....

Here we go again, so just for the record, being a Republican is not by definition the same thing as being a Conservative. If you think the party is more important then the Nation, our problem has been identified. The Republican party lost me 20 years ago and I do not regret my choices. I will not hold my nose to vote because I view my vote as to precious to waste on someone who does not represent my values. With that said, I may vote for a Republican, but simply being a Republican does not guarantee getting my vote. If those who continue to vote the party line can not see the damage they are doing to this Nation, then the Nation is lost. Vote for the Candidate and to the nether regions with the Parties.

Clifford, you are so right! I don't understand why anyone would put the importance of a party's success ahead of changing the political makeup of our government to conservative. In order to win, the patriot movement needs solidarity. And the only way we can achieve solidarity is to rally behind the one great common denominator we have. That common denominator is not a political party. The common denominator of our movement is conservatism! So why are some people balking at that?
