The letter Jeff and Mary sent was an excellent admonition to the Governor. It truly is a shame that our fine Commonwealth's "leader" has acquiesced to political correctness. I had signed the petition to him regarding this, and when I received his disingenuous rationalization for renaming the Christmas tree, I sent the following reply:
Governor, I know that the current "terminology" is what has been dictated mainly by people who don't have a sincere belief in God or Jesus. It's the politically correct terminology which has no foundation in Christian belief what-so-ever. Christmas trees have never by tradition represented Thanksgiving, New Year's, or any other holiday. That is an indisputable fact. The agenda behind the current politically correct philosophy has only one purpose, and that is to in every way possible remove any and all mention of God, Jesus, and Christianity from public display or expression.
A Christmas tree is a Christmas tree Governor, and you can subscribe to this atheistic nonsense if you wish. As long as you occupy our state Capitol, I suppose you could declare it to be a celebration of Karl Marx. But the Jewish people have never used a Christmas tree as a symbol of Hanukkah (unless in politically correct appeasement they do so now in order to make their children feel a part of Christmas), and Americans in general used to value each individual holiday for the sentiments and values associated with it by tradition. Now the Leftist, atheists, and God-haters would blend it all together into a meaningless mass that will make the core beliefs easily forgettable.
Again, Governor, if you want to associate yourself with those who espouse that agenda, be my guest. For me, it's a travesty and a shame that the peoples of Kentucky who have always treasured Thanksgiving for itself and Christmas as the celebration of the birth of our Savior, must now suffer being relegated to the margins of religiosity, having their Christian Faith denigrated and debased as passe and irrelevant. And adding insult to injury, to have the man elected to represent and lead this Commonwealth join the assault on hundreds of years of fine, family-centered traditions that actually contributed to the moral and ethical fabric.
If you are no longer proud to be a part of those sentiments and traditions, then you don't deserve the support of the traditional people of Kentucky.
