I'm adding this as a result of an email I had responded to earlier... and figured this is a subject that perhaps, could be food for thought.
The point of the matter is... regardless of the fact there is OBVIOUSLY an overwhelming number of people involved in numerous groups such as this one... the harsh reality is that our continual "cyber venting" will soon become considered to have no more substance than the "rhetoric" we've all had a bellyfull of, from our elected officials and their "minions".
Granted the "rallies" and protest get togethers are a valuable "expression" of our discontent, and aid in informing OTHERS that there is, indeed, a MOVEMENT afoot, I think it would be beneficial to take a step in the direction of more assertive action.
NOTHING gets a persons attention more than an attack on their wallet.
After all... it was the "dollars & cents" aspect of this "Healthcare Fiasco" which served as the "final straw" that invigorated many of us to haul our carcasses off the couch.
We need to continue with the "momentum building" aspect of internet conversation, as well as word of mouth communication and group gatherings... but if we can devise an approach that will "hit them where they live"... all the better.
So... who can be the targets for mass "boycotts"? Newspapers?, retail chains? T.V. networks?...
Someone/thing that would have a noticeable IMPACT that couldn't be written off to chance or foul weather by those who are already in a state of denial.
For example... the states that are more "left leaning" would receive a "double bang" if retail sales dropped off for a day... the retailers (unfortunately) would take a hit... but so would that states sales tax income.
Not a new idea, but something that might be considered.
The bottom line is: We've proven that we are willing to be PRO- vocal, now we need to proceed to a level where the PRO-active aspect of the movement amounts to more than sign waving and speeches.
Just my 2 cents...
