My wife and I (Sarah and Edward - Member No. 00000000) have been members of AARP since 1998. During that time, we have seen AARP take positions that do not necessarily represent the position of its members.
We are not asked what we think of new bills or rules being proposed by our government that has an impact on the senior citizens but AARP takes a position which it purports to be the stand of it's membership.
Yesterday, AARP was quoted as being behind the Obama Healthcare Plan. The plan will end up rationing service to the senior citizens because there is no cost benefit to assist the senior citizens since most of their life's net worth has passed and thus would be a waste of taxpayers money. Well, I have been paying into the taxpayers money for almost 50 years and think that over that time, I have built up enough credits to enjoy the benefits which I have been paying for.
There is no way that you can say that you are representing my best interests when you support any liberal alternative coming down the pike that will take away any benefits accrued or that would have a negative impact on seniors.
Over the years, more and more people have been added to the roles of Medicare and Medicade who have not been paying into the trust fund and the Congress, in it's failed wisdom, has withdrawn the money from the trust fund to cover their spending habits. I have not heard any compalints raised by AARP to protect the best interest of the seniors you purport to represent and defend.
I have just hung up from trying to call member services (1-888-687-2277) and waiting on the line for 59.6 minutes and only being told that the customer service representives (must be only a few) are assisting other customers and that AARP is recruiting seniors to assist other seniors in preparing tax returns. The message then goes on to say ask your customer service representative when they answer the phone. It seems that AARP is waiting for the person to die on the phone waiting for a representative.
I am asking that they take my wife's and my memberships and cancel them. Since I have paid for membership through June 2010, I would like a refund of the membership fee for the time left on my account.
