Gun control can only be passed in small increments under the cover of public safety or after a heinous crime has been commited using a gun(s). Our best defender of the Second Amendment is the NRA. To join is only $35 a year and it is well worth the cost and they have done a great job to date. As individuals, you and I can help this fight by encouraging others to get involved with recreational shooting and hunting. Most people that are against guns have never fired one and we all know some of these people. Invite them out to shoot targets some day, chances are they will love it. Next they will want to buy a gun then, get them to join the NRA. It works ... I know for a fact. I've converted serval friends into gun enthusiast over the years.
The third reason, and the one I never hear a politician mention, is we have the right to bear arms in order to protect ourselves FROM our nation. The Founding Fathers just got finished fighting a brutal war to remove an oppressive government. Without guns, we would still be British subjects. The British knew this, which is why the very first battle, Lexington and Concord, were a result of the British trying to seize the colonists weapons and gunpowder. An armed citizenry is the final check on the power of the State. Without it, we are completely at the mercy of those in power, whether they are elected to that office or not.
AMEN to that! I don't personally own a gun, (no money right now) but I do plan on getting myself one eventually, with the permit to carry it. I guess I better do it soon before I'm not allowed to!
