10 Things You Should Know About this Bill
‘Democrats have spent six weeks behind closed doors putting together a trillion-dollar experiment in government-run health care that raises premiums, raises taxes, and cuts Medicare—a 2,074-page bureaucratic nightmare’
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks (as prepared) on the Senate floor Friday regarding the importance of getting it right on health care reform:
“Democrats have spent six weeks behind closed doors putting together a trillion-dollar experiment in government-run health care that raises premiums, raises taxes, and cuts Medicare. We’ve now had less than 48 hours to look through this 2,074-page bureaucratic nightmare. But here are 10 things that every American should know about this bill.
· The Democrat bill includes nearly half a trillion dollars in new taxes that hit virtually every American, including middle class families making less than $250,000 a year.
· The Democrat bill would increase insurance premiums for individuals and families.
· The Democrat bill cuts Medicare for seniors by nearly half a trillion dollars ($465 billion) and limits the choices that millions of seniors now enjoy.
· The Democrat bill won’t lower health care costs according to the Congressional Budget Office.
· The true cost of this bill over 10 years, when fully implemented, is about $2.5 trillion.
· Under the Democrat bill, if you like the health insurance you have, you may not be able to keep it.
· The Democrat bill would let government bureaucrats dictate what kind of health plans Americans must purchase and what benefits they can receive.
· The Democrat bill creates a government plan that CBO has said would have higher premiums.
· The Democrat bill would, for the first time in history, allow federal programs to pay for elective abortions.
· Finally, Americans should know that this bill doesn’t have the common-sense reforms that they have been asking for all along, like getting rid of junk lawsuits and leveling the playing field when it comes to health care taxes.
“Americans want reform. But higher premiums, higher taxes, and cuts to Medicare to create more government isn’t reform. Yet that’s precisely what they’d get with this Democrat bill.”

It's a big mess so we all have to draw on various sources, but from what I understand...
Reid's bill draws revenues for 4 years and provides services for six years. Of course, it goes beyond that, but they are largely focusing on the first ten years to explain how it will be implemented. It doesn't start until 2014 (unlike Pelosi's bill which starts in 2013). It sounds to me like they will start drawing revenues immediately, setting up the infrastructure, etc. After four years of drawing revenues and such, then the payout/benefit services start kicking in in 2014.
Suppose there is a huge upset in the 2012 Presidential election. Even if the new leaders (some from the 2010 elections) wanted to repeal this bill, how could they since revenues have already been collected for two years and infrastructure has been built? It will be a nightmare. They might be able to change it a bit, but I would expect that it cannot be repealed entirely.

The bill can absolutely be repealed, and the collected revenues refunded. As we are currently witnessing, Congress can do whatever it has the votes to do. Let's work to install members of congress who will live by the Constitution and are conservative.

the republicans should run in 2010 on repealing all the socialist programs that Obama enacted virtually by fiat over the objections of the vast majority of americans, and use the collected revenues to pay down the national debt.

It was said the plan won't go into effect until at least 2013 or 2014, a contract to G E for the electronic setup is supposed to start the program before hand. In other words they are greasing the pockets of their benefactors first, like Soros, SEIU and GE. SEIU will get the contract for it's workers first, what's left over will go to pay contracted amounts under the plan. Looks like the plan will be milked about 10 to 20 billion before it's even set up, after, about 50 billion will be the cost just for the set up. By the time the plan is ready to go almost 100 billion will disappear from the budget.

Tom, many states are in the process of passing their own laws to nullify the fed.'s bill. My state of Montana is one of about 20 states in the process of doing this. We just had a meeting 2 weeks ago with several of our state senators to let them tell us what they are working on at the state level. I urge you to look into your own state's planning.
